The Clark County School District and the City of Las Vegas have both given their official approval for plans to build a new elementary school in the Skye Canyon area.

The new campus will be built in the Skye Canyon master-planned community, near West Skye Canyon Park Drive and N. Shaumber Road, and west of the 215 Beltway. The site is in the larger northwest Las Vegas growth corridor, close to Providence Las Vegas.

Planning documents say that the school can hold about 850 students. The proposed campus has:

    • About 55 classrooms that are always there
    • Room for more portable classrooms if needed
    • Courts and play areas outside
    • Separate access roads for school buses and parents dropping off their kids to help with traffic flow

The building work should start later this year, and the goal is to have it open for the 2027–28 school year.

The new elementary school shows that more people are moving into the northwest valley. Enrollment projections have gone up as new housing developments grow in and around Skye Canyon and nearby communities.

The new campus is meant to:

    • Make it easier for nearby elementary schools to deal with crowds
    • Less reliance on portable classrooms
    • Make it easier for families who live in growing neighborhoods to get to each other.

District officials have said that building ahead of enrollment spikes helps keep boundaries from changing suddenly and stops long-term overcrowding in schools in Providence Las Vegas.

Even though the school is not in Providence Las Vegas, people who live there may notice:

    • Building work going on near Skye Canyon
    • Changes to traffic in the future during school arrival and dismissal times
    • Possible attendance boundary issues as enrollment levels out across campuses in the northwest

More information about zoning is expected to come out closer to the opening of the school.

Providence Happenings will monitor any alterations to school construction schedules, traffic plans, or boundaries that may impact families in the northwest valley.
