As construction on the new northwest valley substation for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department continues, some parts of Providence Las Vegas and Skye Canyon are now filled with the sound of heavy machinery.

For some people who live nearby, the constant noise of grading equipment and the early-morning backup beepers have become an annoying soundtrack.

“It’s always happening,” said one homeowner who lives a few blocks away on Grand Teton Drive and Hualapai Way. “You can definitely hear it.”

The 13,000-square-foot, $27 million building is meant to serve the quickly growing northwest valley, which includes Providence Las Vegas and Skye Canyon. Officials say the substation will speed up response times and make police more visible in the 89166 area that has added thousands of homes in the last ten years.

Plans for the area include a two-acre community park next to the station. It will have picnic pavilions, a playground, walking paths, and a small skate area. City leaders say this will improve public safety and add amenities to the Providence Las Vegas neighborhood.

Construction started in late 2025 and is expected to last until early 2027. Local rules allow work to be done during the day, but some residents say the noise and truck traffic have been bothersome, especially for people who work from home.

Some people say the short-term trouble is worth it.

Another resident wrote online, “The noise isn’t great, but we need the infrastructure.” “This area has grown quickly.”

Providence Happenings will keep you posted on the project’s progress and give updates as the new substation is built.
